What it's about: In Post-WWII Germany, nearly a decade after his affair with an older woman came to a mysterious end, law student Michael Burk re-encounters his former lover as she defends herself in a war-crime trial.
So, not knowing anything about the movie before seeing it - once you get over the part of the affair, it's a really good movie. Very sad. Predictable at times (except for that affair part), but very understandable why Kate Winslet got the Golden Globe for it. Don't get me wrong Ralph Fiennes did a super job as well, but Kate was outstanding. Within the first few seconds of seeing and hearing Kate Winslet's character - Hannah, it was obvious that Kate was "German" and there was no sight of her U.K. up bringing what-so-ever.
Winning Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, no doubt earning two golden globes that night (the other for Revolutionary Road - another movie I must see!)
Random Thought: Ever notice that when Kate and Leo do a movie together, poor Leo always gets the shaft? First with Titanic and now with Revolutionary Road. I guess Leo's a good actor but Ms. Winslet seems to outshine him every time.
Anyways if you figure out what the movie is about, her acting is that much better as you see her struggling...you'll know what I mean when you see it ;) 
Interesting Fact: The director always wanted Kate Winslet for the role, however the filming of Revolutionary Road conflicted and so the part was offered to Nicole Kidman (ugh....can you imagine, she's so horrible with accents!!!). Anyways, when Nicole got knocked up by her hubby Keith Urban, she had to pass on the part and by then - almost magically- Kate was done with Leo and could accept the role. Thank goodness for Sunday Rose Kidman Urban,what a mouthful!
